“Italy and the Global Nuclear Order: Past, Present, and Future” conference
17 & 18 October 2024 – Roma Tre University, Rome, Italy
Organised by The Nuclear Proliferation International History Project (NPIHP) at Roma Tre University, Italy, in conjunction with the Third Nuclear Age project at the University of Leicester, UK, this workshop will focus on the role of Italy in the global nuclear order since 1945, examining the Italian experience across the First, Second and now Third Nuclear Ages.
From the unbridled optimism characterizing the 1950s – “les années folles” – to the pervasive anxiety about nuclear proliferation in the 1970s, culminating in the “golden age” of arms control and nuclear governance in the 1990s, to the more complex nuclear world of today, we are interested in the particular Italian experience, approach and understanding of global nuclear order.
